Ryan Nguyen – Featured Photographer

One of the goals of The Apex Drag is to build a platform where anyone has the opportunity to show who they are and what they can do. While brainstorming ideas for The Apex Drag, we thought it would be great to have a featured photographer picked by the readers. Well, it’s time for our first featured photographer.

Our first featured photographer is Ryan Nguyen. Ryan, like most of us, has a lot of photos from car shows, but what really stands out to me is his ability to use warm or cool tones in a photo to give the photo a little more emotion compared to more neutral/natural photos. Another thing he does really well that is often overlooked is capturing people in the photos. While most of us might be distracted by this group of awesome cars and thinking about how to shoot them, Ryan took the time to take a photo of everyone around the cars as well.

Ryan H: How long have you been shooting?

Ryan N: I’ve been shooting since 2015. Out of the blue I took a Film/Animation class at J.E.L in high school and just fell in love with film and photography.

Ryan H: What got you into photography?

Ryan N: What got me into photography was actually meeting some classmates who took photography as I was learning filmmaking first.

Ryan H: Dream shoot? (gear, car, location, etc.)

Ryan N: My dream shoot is an R34 Skyline as it is my dream car as well and in Japan too! Dream gear would probably be all the lenses I can have for my Sony A7RIV and all rode mic’s.

Ryan H: Do you prefer shooting or editing?

Ryan N: That’s a hard question as I enjoy doing both but if I have to choose, the editing as I can take my time to stylize the photo with as much time as I need.

Ryan H: Advice for others?

Ryan N: My advice to others is to capture anything, that’s how I started. See what are your flaws and try your best to improve. Photography doesn’t have to be perfect for others as it’s a form of art of making memories tangible. I heard that from Destin Sparks.

Ryan H: What do you drive?

Ryan N: I drive a 2015 Subaru WRX Stage 3 IAG Built by Premiere Auto Sports

Ryan H: What would you like to share?
